8 de novembro de 1931 – 26 de janeiro de 2010 Depois de uma longa batalha contra o câncer, o Roy faleceu em paz na manhã de Terça-Feira. Ele nasceu em Seattle, filho de Kametaro e Kinue Kawaguchi, e viveu com seus irmãos e irmãs no bairro conhecido como International District, em Seattle. Seu pai foi um campeão na pesca e tinha uma loja de acessórios de pesca e um pequeno hotel depois da guerra. Em 1942 a família foi transferida para o campo de concentração Minidoka Relocation Center no Estado de Idaho. O Roy retornou com a sua família para Seattle e trabalhou como engenheiro na Boeing, aposentando em 1974. Ele veio para o Estado do Hawaii com sua esposa, Barbara Tanabe, e viveu no Manoa Valley. O Roy foi o "Senhor Mãe" tomando conta do filho Nicolas que nasceu em 1979. Ele serviu a comunidade como assistente, treinador e motorista na escola e também ajudou seus vários amigos concertando tudo que podia. Ele ensinou através de seu exemplo e era a fundação de sua família, distribuindo seus valores e guiando seu filho através de seu jeito calmo, quieto e com paixão. O Roy deixa sua esposa de 39 anos, Barbara Tanabe, seu filho Nicolas; sua primeira esposa Hana Kawaguchi e os filhos Keith Kawaguchi, Janey Campbell e Gary Kawagutchi; cinco netos e uma grande neta; irmãs Tomo, Saki, Masa e varios sobrinhos e sobrinhas.

November 8, 1931 – January 26, 2010 After a long battle with cancer, Roy passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning. He was born in Seattle to Kametaro and Kinue Kawaguchi, and lived with his brothers and sisters in the area now known as the International District. His father was a champion fisherman and owned a fishing tackle store and small hotel before the war. In 1942, the family was interned at the Minidoka Relocation Center in Idaho. Roy returned with his family to Seattle and eventually worked as an aeronautical engineer with the Boeing Company, retiring in 1974. He came to Hawaii with his wife, Barbara Tanabe, and settled in Manoa Valley. Roy was the original “Mr. Mom” taking care of son Nicolas who was born in 1979. He served as a school aide, coach, driver, and Mr. Fixit to his many friends. He taught by example and was the foundation of his family, sharing his values and guiding his children through his quiet, compassionate and gentle manner. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Tanabe, and son Nicolas; his first wife Hana Kawaguchi and their children, Keith Kawaguchi, Janey Campbell, Gary Kawaguchi; five grandsons and one great-granddaughter; sisters Tomo, Saki, Masa, and several nieces and nephews. Ricardo Haragutchi and Jackelyn Torres We met uncle Roy in the '70's when he came to visit us in Brazil. This adventure, together with other members of the Kawaguchi family, inspired us for our whole life. He create in us not only the will to know the world but also to experience the life and culture in other countries through immigration. More important of all, he inspired us to keep this bridge that we have between our families in Brazil, US, Japan and several other countries. Throughout the years we had the pleasure to meet our dear uncle Roy several times. In all the times we met, he transmitted us a sense of peace and incentivated our initiative and independence. Uncle Roy even helped us advertise the 2006 Family Reunion in Brazil (the video with Roy's speech will be soon published on this page). We would like to share with the Kawaguchi family our feeling of deep loss. Please, accept our condolences and our gratitude for keeping, together with our uncle Roy, this link we have between our families.
